Summer Glam

When it gets hot and muggy in New York, I just want to wear shorts and flip flops. On the beach, I get lazy and want to wear bikinis and a cotton dress. On the other hand, I love the glam looks of summer and this year, I’m going to strive to glam it up a little more during the warmer months like the images here!

Orange Sherbet

{pants, shirt: J.Crew; necklace: vintage; scarf: gift; ring: iLoveMe}

Did you know, it’s actually spelled sherbet and technically should be pronounced that way too? This post helped me learn something new! I wore this outfit last week and at least 5 people at work told me I looked like sherbet so I had to put it in this post’s title. I love these springy colors, they just make me so happy and smiley!

Congratulations, Lauren!

Today my sister graduates from Columbia University and starts her life as an adult in the big scary real world. I remember how overwhelming and exciting that time was in my life and I can’t wait to see all of the amazing things that she does. My sister is my best friend, my biggest fan, and my rock. Seeing her achieve this milestone makes my heart burst with pride!

To my sister:

You have made me the proudest big sister in the world! You have turned into a brilliant, gorgeous, hilarious, and independent young woman over the last few years. You’ve been through some difficult situations, but have ended up on top, as a Columbia graduate, having learned important lessons about life, love, and Kant with a bright, infectious smile on your face.

I can’t believe that in a few weeks you will enter the world of adulthood. It feels like just yesterday that we were putting on dance recitals in the front yard and becoming drunk with laughter after family dinners… Ok that last one really was yesterday.

No matter where you go, what you do, or how old you get, you’ll always be my baby sister, with the sheepish grin and gangly arms, rockin’ a velour leotard, making my stomach hurt from laughing so hard, and always inspiring me to do bigger and better things.

I’m so proud of you. There is nothing that you can’t do!

Love,
Julia

Beige Beauty

{dress: Seduce; shoes: Steve Madden; bracelet: J.Crew}

It’s officially wedding season. We spent this weekend in Pennsylvania enjoying a beautiful wedding weekend with some friends. I always have trouble dressing for weddings because I only own a handful of fancy dresses and I hate repeating them over and over. I love this dress from Seduce for weddings because not only fits like a glove but it’s chic, sleek, and definitely not understated. The sequined shoulder pads make it different than any other dress in the room. Add a donut bun and I feel like I’m walking on the red carpet!

Casual Fridays

{shirt: Saint James; shirt: J.Crew; jeans: 7 For All Mankind; shoes: Cole Haan, earrings, vintage; ring: iLoveMe}

I love that I can wear whatever I want to work. We don’t have a strict dress code at Integrative Nutrition, so I often find myself in boyfriend jeans and a messy bun on Fridays. I’ll also admit to some winter Fridays when I was decked out in yoga pants and sneakers (gasp!). But who says casual has to mean lacking style. Certainly not me! This Saint James (men’s) shirt is a great go-to comfy classic that keeps you warm on summer nights but breathes for springtime days.

Brooklyn Enough?

{leggings: American Apparel; shirt: L.A.M.B; sweater: J.Crew; boots: Frye; necklace: Gorjana; ring: iLoveMe; belt: Banana Republic}

As you read in Monday’s post, my Saturday was spent perusing trinkets and treats at the famous Brooklyn Flea Market. As we were leaving our Upper East Side apartment, I had to check in with Anel to make sure that I looked “Brooklyn enough”. He laughed at me, but I think I did, despite the J.Crew sweater. It was a Brooklyn-y color!

Miso-Glazed Cod

If you’ve ever been to Nobu, you know how incredibly succulent their miso-glazed black cod dish tastes. When I found this recipe, I did a little jump for joy. After my victory dance, I immediately made my version served over a bed of brocollini (both recipes below). Although not quite Nobu’s version, mine is pretty snazzy, looks kind of professional, and is super delish.

Ingredients:
Fish
-1 piece of fresh cod
-1/2 cup sake (I didn’t have mirin so did this instead of 1/4 cup of mirin and 1/4 cup of sake)
-1/4 cup white miso paste
-1 tblspn brown rice syrup (or you could use agave or honey in place of the sugar)

Brocollini
-2 heads of organic brocollini, chopped
-2 cloves of garlic, chopped
-1 tblspn toasted sesame oil
-2 tspns tamari
-1 inch cube of ginger, chopped
-sprinkle of red pepper flakes
-small handful of pignoli (pine nuts)

Directions:
-Heat marinade ingredients in a small saucepan on low heat, stirring until it boils
-Place fish in tupperware container and cover with the sauce
-Marinate for at least 1 hour (up to 24 hours!)
-Pre-heat oven to 400
-Bake marinated fish in oven for 10-15 minutes (until flakey)
-While fish is baking, saute garlic and red pepper flakes in toasted sesame oil for about one minute
-Add brocollini and saute until bright green (about 8 minutes)
-Halfway through, add ginger and pignoli
-Serve fish over brocollini
-Enjoy!

My Bridal Shower

{dress: J.Crew; necklace: RJ Graziano; earrings: Kate Spade; pumps: Steve Madden; ring and bracelet: c/o my mom}

On Sunday, my grandmother and aunts threw me the most amazing bridal shower. I felt so loved and appreciated in a room full of women who were all there to celebrate me and the next big life step I’m taking! We were so wrapped up in the festivities that we forgot to take photos until we stopped at a gas station on the way back to New York. I tried, for once, wearing a very neutral outfit. I felt girly and bridal and stood out even though I wasn’t wearing my usual bright colors. The only pop of color in my outfit was my nail polish (Tart Deco by Essie).

My sister gave me these adorable Kate Spade “Mrs” earrings as a gift and I think they’re just the most adorable piece of jewelry I’ve ever seen. I’m not a “Mrs” yet but my earlobes are practicing out the term.
